Innes trio victorious in Inverness Winter Darts League Triples championship

The Innes Bar Inverness Winter Darts League held its triples competition at SoBar playing for the John Price Trophy for the 45 th time around 100 players battled to take the prize.

The Innes Bar C trio of Sandy Morrison, Derek Maclean and George Main were this year’s champions, halting a run of four consecutive years by the Portland, with a final victory over Tarradale making their second appearance in the John Price final.

Tarradale were represented by David Fraser, David McGruer and Ally Ross and had reached the final with a semi-final win over Tarraport a mixed team triple with Gordy Matheson, Garry Gunn and Chris Birrell.

The Innes side have all been previous champions with Derek now taking his third title and two each going to Sandy and George and their last four opponents were Still Game Rockstars represented by Robert Mackenzie, Fraser Cairney and Jim Newlands.

Maximums on the night were scored by Jim Newlands (2) (Still Game), Sandy Morrison (2) (Innes Bar C), George Main (2) (Innes Bar C), Dave Clayton (Innes Power), Steve Munro (East End Arrows), Jamie Fraser (East End Arrows), Steve MacIntyre (Battlefield Bullies), Liam MacAskill (Innes Spikeys), Nigel McEwan (East End Arrows), Steven McCluskey (Innes Power), Gordy Matheson (Tarradale), Mark Fraser (East End Arrows), Ally Ross (Tarradale) and Dave Fraser (Tarradale).

Mike Maclean (Jackos) had a 177 and David Fraser (Tarradale) hit a 171.

George Main (Innes Bar C) went top of the Checkout Table with the maximum finish possible of 170 but also hit 115 and 100 finishes, followed by 164 Ally Ross (Tarradale), 130 Hugh Graham (Still Game), 130 Rob Mackenzie (Still Game), 106 Steve Macintyre (Battlefield Bullies) and 106 Derek Maclean (Innes Bar C).

There was a 13 dart leg from Derek Maclean and David McGruer and a a 14 dart leg from George Main while the following players went out in 15 darts, Davy Grant (Innes Bar C), Derek Maclean (Innes Bar C), Nigel McEwan (East End Arrows), George Main (Innes Bar C)

The champions George Main, Sandy Morrison & Derek Maclean hit a fantastic 17 dart leg of ,701 in their triple match.

The final awards from the Summer League were announced as Sandy Morrison took the A League Player of the Year award for the third time just ahead of Steve Munro (East End ,Arrows) in second place and Kenny Maclean from Portland A in third.

The B League award went to Robbie Campbell from Castle Street Elite with Gordon Redmond just behind in second spot and Richard Blades from Innes X in third.

In the C League Robert Robson from Thistle Inn took the award just one point ahead of his team-mate Barry Stuart with Graham Buchan from the Canteen in third.

Steve Munro hit ten maximums from the season’s total of 236 and took the 180 award while the top finish of 170 was hit by Portland A players James Fraser and Doug Milne with James taking the award courtesy of his second best finish of 140 compared to 130 from Doug.

There were a total of 107 ton-plus checkouts during the season and this is the seventh year since 2006 when the awards were introduced that the 170 checkout has taken the prize.
