Inverness continued their recovery in the Championship as they maintained their winning start to 2023 with victory at Arbroath.

But there is concern over loan star Daniel Mackay who went off injured in the second half, soon after he scored.

Billy Mckay scored his tenth goal for the season to give Inverness the lead early on.

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni scored on his debut to bring Arbroath level midway through the first half.

But Jay Henderson put Inverness Caledonian Thistle back in front on the stroke of half time.

Mackay then scored midway through the second half before substitute Lewis Nicolson scored late on to seal all three points.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle made one change to the team that thrashed Cove Rangers 6-1 on Monday.

Wallace Duffy returned from suspension and replaced Max Ram who is injured.

Inverness took the lead after nine minutes when Lewis Hyde's cross into the box found Daniel Mackay who scuffed his shot. But the ball rolled kindly to Mckay to fire into the net.

However, Arbroath equalised when a cross from the right wing was met by Yasin Ben El-Mhanni who fired a low drive past Mark Ridgers into the bottom left corner.

Inverness almost equalised a minute later when Mckay saw his shot cleared off the line by Thomas O'Brien.

But the visitors were back in front on the stroke of half time, when Aaron Doran's corner kick was cleared but fell to Henderson at the edge of the box.

He then fired a shot through the defence and past Gaston in the final moment of the first half.

Inverness then increased their advantage midway through the second half when Sean Welsh's cross from the right wing found Mackay unchallenged 12 yards from goal and he fired the ball into the net.

Substitute Lewis Nicolson then sealed all three points when he got himself on the end of a Steven Boyd cross to nod the ball into the net from close range.
