Hoffmann sees hard work épée off with call-up

Strathpeffer fencer Tom Hoffmann is feeling top of the world after earning the competitive trip of a lifetime Down Under.

Dingwall Fencing Club’s leading light has earned the right to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, being held in Canberra, Australia, from November 23-28.

Meeting the selection criteria was the culmination of 11 months of hard toil for the 22-year-old, who four years ago was the youngest member of the bronze-winning Scotland men’s epee team in Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games.

The self-funded fencer has been brandishing the blade since the age of seven and has accumulated 10 Scottish national titles and six senior open titles, while representing Great Britain eight times internationally.
