A week after taking a 50-0 hammering in Inverness in the league, Gordonians face Highland again in the BT Caledonia Shield with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

Carson warned his unchanged side that Gordonians will come out “at 100 miles an hour” to try and make amends for their humbling last Saturday, with the key for the home club being able to weather that early storm.

“They will be massively disappointed after last week and want to show a lot more,” he said. “But that result has to have an effect.

“They will start at 100 miles and really have a go at us, so we have to keep it tight, wear them down and get on top quickly.”

The most difficult aspect will be ensuring the players maintain the same commitment once more and a big step towards the Shield final will be a fine enticement. Another win and Highland will have set themselves well on the road to two trophies.

“A few boys are putting their hands up with performances for the seconds but barring any last-minute injuries, I can’t omit anyone after last week’s performance,” added Carson.

Highland’s reserves are back in action with a fixture brought forward from the end of the season as they travel to play North Scotland Police. The police side have not won a game so far this season but Highland will be aware that their opponents have always scored a lot of points in defeat. A strong squad will travel and they will be looking to keep up the push for the title.

Highland’s junior squads are back to league duty after their World Cup fixture break. This weekend the President’s Conference opposition is top Scottish club Ayr. The under-18s are on the road on Saturday while the under-16s and under-15s make the same trip on Sunday. Tough games for all of the squads with a lot of eyes following the under-16s can maintain their unbeaten run.

Also on Sunday the under-14s and under-13s have the benefit of home matches against Ayr while the Minis and Micros squads have their usual morning training sessions.
