Highland squash stars who started their careers in Inverness help Scotland reach World Championship quarter finals

THREE players from the Highlands who started their career at Inverness Squash Club have helped Scotland to the quarter finals of the World Squash Team Championships.

Alasdair Prott from Inverness along with Alan Clyne from Munlochy and North Kessock’s Greg Lobban have helped Scotland reach the last eight of the competition taking place in New Zealand this week.

Scotland impressed during the group stages of the tournament with straightforward victories over Canada and Samoa where they didn’t lose a single game.

However, they faced a tougher test in the last 16 of the tournament as they squeezed out a 2-1 win over Hong Kong.

Clyne lost the first match against Wong Chi Him comes out on top, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8 after 45 minutes.

However, Lobban and Stewart went on to win their matches to book their place in the quarter finals.

Scotland face a tough test in a bid to book their place in the semi finals when they take on number one seeds Egypt in the early hours of Friday morning.

In the other quarter finals, Switzerland take on USA, Wales face France and Germany clash with England.
