Highland Synchronised Skating Team enjoyed success at one of the UK’s biggest events of its kind last month.

The local precision skaters, now preparing for the Britannia Cup in Nottingham this weekend, were in fine form with a number of achievements at the Trophy D'Ecosse competition in Dumfries.

Four teams - Northern Lights, Aurora, Highland Pups and Highlanders - made the journey to Dumfries Ice Bowl before Christmas, coming away with an array of medals, personal bests and trophies.

Club secretary Leanne McIntosh said: “We had a fantastic weekend and came away with some good achievements.

“Northern Lights were awarded a very well deserved bronze medal as reward for hard work and dedication over many months, achieving a personal best score for their fabulous routine in a very difficult category.

“Aurora skated their way to two medals at this competition - a bronze in their category and walked away as Scottish Champions, too.

“The newly formed Highland pups were skating at their debut competition, having only formed a few months ago, and did amazingly well.

“They didn't place on the podium, but walked away with the most entertaining award for their routine, a great take on the Flintstones characters!

“The Highlanders, who are the adult team, did really well but did not place on the podium this time.

“It was a great team effort from all involved and there is lots of excitement now for the next competition.”

Coaches Amanda Clinton and Eilish Rennie, supported by mums, dads and other family members, as well as volunteer chaperones, will again be on the move for the team this weekend.

The Britannia Cup is held at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 January.
