FINE weather and ground conditions helped Highland play some fine rugby to win their last league match of the season against Hillfoots 36-5.

Coach Dave Carson’s side produced the same attacking style evident since the beginning of the year to make light work of a stubborn Hillfoots side. The bonus point win also sees Highland jump past Gordonians for a second-place finish.

Most of the best play was in the first-half as Highland moved the ball about quickly with some fine ball handling. With the front row not as solid due to the absence of Stuart Watson the home side’s change of tactics worked well and they racked up five tries from Morris Dillon, Rory Cross, Stuart MacDonald, Jack Sutherland and Jamie MacPherson.

Craig Irvine put over two conversions and with the only riposte from Hillfoots being an unconverted try the half-time score was 31-5.

The second-half lost some of its fizz as the job was done and Highland already had an eye on the end of season celebrations in the guise of Gareth High’s farewell party.

Another try and conversion was added by Irvine for a final score of 36-5.
