HEAD coach Dave Carson will look for Highland to strike a blow to leaders Kelso’s National One title aspirations when the two teams clash in Inverness on Saturday.

Kelso lead National One by one point from Ayr and have won 13 of their 14 league matches this season.

Highland ran Kelso close in the Borders earlier in the season when they lost 24–21.

A big crowd is expected at Canal Park and Carson says his team are capable of pulling off a victory.

“If we had another five minutes at that game in Kelso, we would have won as they were on their knees due to the speed we were playing at,” he said.

“It will be a big day on Saturday for the club as everything is sold out in the club’s hospitality,” he said.

“It is a great game to come back into after the disappointing defeat to Biggar.

“We have talked previously that we need to win all our home games.

“It will be a tough clash as Kelso are a team who are used to winning.

“But if we can put in an 80 minute performance and keep the speed of the game up, we can get a win out of it.

“Kelso have a great pack of forwards with a lot of experience and their backs are running well too.

“But if everyone is fit after last weekend, we will go in full strength and it will be some game.”

Despite Kelso being top of the table, Carson doesn’t rate them as the best rugby team in the division.

But he says Kelso are a team who know how to grind out victories.

“I would say Melrose are the best team in the division,” says Carson.

“When they beat us at home, their style of rugby is similar to ours and it is good to watch.

“But Kelso know how to grind out results and that is why they are where they are.

“They are neck and neck with Ayr at the top and once a team gets used to winning, they grind out results wherever they go.

“We will look at what they do and take them on.”
