HIGHLAND are just about at that season defining moment with the north derby match against Caithness tomorrow at Canal Park. A win could see them escape relegation from Caledonia Regional League Division One, but a defeat will almost certainly mean the Greens go down.
The hosts will have some reinforcements available with the return of hooker Kevin Brown and second-row Kenny Cameron. However, they have to wait and see how some injuries respond to treatment with Jamie Strachan having picked up a neck injury, while Richard Sim has a knee problem.
Strachan is key in the front row battle that could give Highland an advantage in the set-pieces. Sim’s pace is vital out wide as he would join a very strong back division.
Caithness have a very determined set of forwards — a concern for Highland that will need to be countered, which would free the home backs to attack at pace.
With the club looking for a big home support to cheer on the first-team, two of Highland’s junior sides have early home kick-offs so they can add their voices to the cause.
The under-18s take on Kirkcaldy in the return fixture of their Champions League clash and having won away, Highland are confident they can maintain a push for the title. The under-15s, meanwhile, entertain Huntly in a rearranged league match.
The city club is also promoting tomorrow as Super Saturday — a string of home fixtures followed by the televised Six Nations finale.
On Sunday, Highland’s mini section holds it annual rugby festival with clubs from all over the north attending. The micros have their normal training session.
