Highland Boxing Academy look to be knockout fighters at National Development Championships

Highland Boxing Academy will be sending a squad off 11 athletes to compete at the Boxing Scotland National Development Championships next month.

The Inverness club have high hopes of bringing home a haul of medals from the tournament which takes place in Ravenscraig.

Highland Boxing Academy pugilists will be among 735 athletes from 110 clubs taking part in the tournament which starts on Friday, November 4.

HBA head coach Liam Foy says he will be taking a talented squad and is confident they will pack a punch against some of the top fighters at development level in Scotland.

“We have a large squad featuring boys and girls who come from Inverness and the surrounding area,” said Foy.

“It is a good squad going down to Ravenscraig, they are training hard in the build up to the tournament.

“The expectation and the standard which we are demanding from our boxers just now are of the highest level.

“We are really pushing to get the best out of them that we possibly can.

“Hopes are high we can take back a great medal haul at the end of the tournament.”

The first round of the championships will take place from Friday, November 4 to Sunday, November 6.

The final rounds of the championships will take place in Friday, November 11 to Sunday, November 13.

Among the boxers who are taking part in the tournament next month include Joe Kinsella, Kiegan Mackenzie, Joshua Morrison

“We have really good boxers who competed and won and last year,” said Foy.

“They have proven that they can go down there and have won bouts.

“It is a tournament that the squad are looking forward to and our we are making sure that they will be in top fitness before we go away down there.”
