Inverness to be represented in table tennis National Leagues for first time

The development of table tennis in the Highlands is about to take the next step with a team entered into the National Leagues for the first time.

Highlands will join Division Six and will kick off their season on Saturday, October 12.

It was not that long ago that there was no regular table tennis club in the area, but in a year head coach Stephen Gertsen has helped grow the sport to the point that entering the league was natural progression.

“It’s actually a big step,” Gertsen said.

“Normally you would have a local league, but there isn’t one in Inverness or the Highlands, so it’s kind of a jump.

“We’re missing that local competition, we haven’t got that structure, so we’re going straight into the deep end of a National League, which is obviously higher up, but we hope to do well."
