Former Dingwall Academy pupil Jacob Henry has been revealed as one of the first squad members for Melrose’s Super6 side Southern Knights.

Henry played for Ross Sutherland’s junior sides before making his senior breakthrough at Highland, later moving down to Melrose.

The Scotland Under-17 cap earned a place on the Macphail Scholarship to Stellenbosch University in South Africa in January of this year.

His progress was rewarded earlier this summer with a promotion to stage three of the Fosroc Academy, opening up a pathway to the professional game.

Henry told the Melrose Rugby website: “I’m really excited to be part of this team which will help me develop both on and off the field.”

When not in action for Southern Knights, Henry will play club rugby for Selkirk in the Tennent’s Premiership.

The reveal of the Dingwall man came alongside that of Scotland Under-17 and Under-18 international Nathan Sweeney, also a stage three player at the Fosroc Academy.

Southern Knights will be captained by Craig Jackson, with Grant Shiells and Fraser Thomson vice-captains.
