The 26-year-old came back to the Caledonian Stadium this week after signing a two-year deal.

Oakley previously played for Inverness between 2017 and 2019 before transferring to Hamilton Academical who were in the Premiership at that time under former ICT assistant manager Brian Rice.

He then moved to Bulgaria to play for Pirin Blagoevgrad before returning to Scotland to sign for Kilmarnock in 2021. Last season, he played for Woking in the National League before being released.

Dodds says he was delighted to capture his signature and says it is obvious how much Inverness means to Oakley.

“I don’t know if it is true, but I get the impression he left and he regretted it,” he said.

“He loves this place and runs through brick walls, he is a great performer.

“Head of physical performance Ross Hughes worked with him at Kilmarnock and told me how good he was and fits the criteria in every department.

“He is not a just a target man, he links it up well and he can add goals, but he is definitely an ingredient that was missing.”

Oakley is Caley Thistle’s fifth signing with Steven Boyd, Zak Delaney, Max Ram and Nathan Shaw joining up as well.

Dodds is preparing his team for their first League Cup group match tomorrow at high-flying Kelty Hearts.

He is still looking to bring in at least one more forward before the end of the transfer window next month, but is happy so far with how his squad is shaping up for the campaign ahead.
