Half dozen for young Lilywhites in Portree as under-18 league hits week four
Clachnacuddin's under-18s put their first win on the board on Sunday with a bumper 6–0 win away from home in the Highland League under-18 north.
The young Lilywhites made hard work of it though, and struggled to make a breakthrough during a much closer first half at Portree Astro.
Hosts North West Skye did well to contain their Inverness visitors until the 43rd minute when a Chevy Thomson goal eventually broke the deadlock.
The floodgates opened in the second period though, when Charlie Taylor double their advantage, netting in the 55th minute.
Substitute Jamie Hamilton made it 3–0 soon after before a mishap at the back led to Sam Maclelland putting one into his own net.
Hamilton grabbed his second to make it five, and it was left to team captain Fraser Wright to round off the scoring.
It was honours even elsewhere in the Highland League under-18 north division, with draws aplenty.
Wick Academy, hoping to make it two wins on the bounce, had to settle for a point away to Lossiemouth.
Lucas Reid, Morgan Kennedy and Matthew Aitkenhead were the names on the scoresheet for the Scorries, countering a first half Noah Murray hat-trick which had the Coasters boasting a commanding lead after just half an hour.
It was all level at Nairn too, as County held league champions Alness United to a 2-2 draw.
Calum Young sent the home side on their way with a 12th minute goal but United levelled a quarter of an hour later through Roy Lyon.
The Alness side completed the turnaround on 35 minutes when Lyon pounced again leaving the score in their favour at the interval.
But a goal midway through the second half, scored by Nairn's Jack Maccormack, ensured that the points would be shared.
Inverness Athletic, hosting Rothes, had no better luck on home soil.
A first half strike from Kieran Goddard had Athletic in the lead for most of the first half before a six minute spell saw the Speysiders turn the game on its head.
Lewis Bower equalised for Rothes on 54 minutes and on the hour mark, Angus Low made it 2–1.
Not to be outdone, however, Inverness restored parity deep into stoppage time with a second from Goddard.
In the other game of the weekend, Keith claimed top spot with goals from Mike Maver and Jack Milne to record a 2-0 win away to Dingwall.
Balloan, who did not play due to their game against Forres Mechanics being postponed, sit in second place a point behind Keith with a game in hand.
Alness United and Lossiemouth sit in third and fourth spot on eight points apiece.
Next weekend (Sunday September 17):
Alness United v Balloan
Clachnacuddin v Wick Academy
Dingwall v Inverness Athletic
Lossiemouth v North West Skye
Nairn County v Forres Mechanics
