LAST weekend’s disappointing performance when losing at home to Gordonians had already prompted director of rugby Hugh Mackintosh to ring the changes for the trip to Strathmore, although some of these alterations are forced by injury.

Andrew Paterson will be sidelined after finding out he played most of the Gordonians match with a fractured fibula. Also out are centres Dave Ramsay and David Titteringham, while Kenny Cameron is still recovering from a twisted ankle. Although Neil walker will start in the front row, the pack is lacking back row players and recognised jumpers in the lineout.

The backs have the personnel to make up numbers with the return of winger Rory Cross and he will be joined by young Darren McLeod on the other wing.

The main problem, however, will be to motivate the players to overcome the latest setback and get back to form as they bid to push up the Caledonia Regional League Division One table.

The Reds should be back in action tomorrow with a home game against Inverness Craig Dunain. The squeeze on player numbers will affect selection, but they should still have the edge on their local rivals.

Of Highland’s junior sides, only the under-18s are in action as they embark on the next stage of the league campaign with a trip to Ellon tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the entire mini and micro section are back for their usual Sunday sessions at 11am.
