ENGLAND's Laird Shepherd produced the greatest comeback in the history of the Amateur Championship to come from eight shots down to be crowned champion at Nairn Golf Club.
He produced a colossal fightback to defeat fellow Englishman Monty Scowsill in an extra hole play-off after both players were level after 36 holes in the final.
In the first round of the final, Scowsill was eight up after 17 holes with Shepherd managing to reduce the deficit to seven at the 18th.
After 34 holes, Scowsill was four up with four holes left to play, but Shepherd managed to win the remaining fairways to force the contest into an extra hole where he came out victorious.
Shepherd has now qualified to play at The Open, US Open and the Masters by winning the biggest amateur golf tournament in the world.
