He came out on top at the tournament held at Nairn Golf Club when he claimed victory by two shots with a score of 69 to lift the trophy for the first time.

Smith, who is also the club’s competitions and handicap convener, was delighted to lift the trophy.

“It is the first time I have won the Nairn County Championship but I have previously won the Inverness title,” he said.

“It was a beautiful day for golf and the course was cooler compared to the temperatures inland.”

A total of 57 entrants competed in the tournament, which saw both men and women, as well as seniors and juniors compete in the competition for the first time.

The move was made to boost numbers, after the 2022 tournament only had eight players.

Smith is now preparing for the Scottish Senior Strokeplay Championship at Stirling next week.
