The biggest golf competition in Inverness is set to return this summer.

Inverness Golf Club have confirmed that the Inverness Four Day Open will take place from Monday, July 1 to Thursday, July 4.

The competition returned to action for the first time in four years last year after it was affected by the Covid pandemic.

Kieran Mackay from Inverness Golf Club came out on top in a high quality field last year and will be out to defend the Russwood Trophy in 2024.

He won the tournament for the second time in his career when he defeated Lewis Reid from Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club in the final 3/2.

The format of the competition will remain the same as last year.

The first two days will see each golfer play 36 holes.

The top 16 scores from the qualifying round will then progress to the matchplay section.

The last 16 and quarter final rounds will take place on Wednesday, July 3.

The semi final and final of the competition will take place on Thursday, July 4.

Recruitment firm Orion Group are sponsoring the event again. Tournament spokesman David Joel said the competition is sure to attract more of the region’s top amateur players.

He said: “As well as the scratch prize of £500 and section prizes of £300, this year sees the introduction of a new senior section prize and hole in one prize of £5000.”

Entries are now open via the club’s website.
