GOLF: Boat of Garten golfer wins North of Scotland Open title





Boat of Garten golfer Jordan Shaw claimed victory at the North of Scotland Golf Open at Brora Golf Course last weekend.

The Aviemore greenkeeper proved too good for the rest of the field as he claimed victory by one shot at the Sutherland course.

The competition became a two-horse race in the final round with Matthew Wilson from Forres.

Shaw hit a 66 in the opening round with Wilson hitting a 67. But the Forres golfer took the advantage with a 62 in the second round to go to the top of the leaderboard while Shaw floundered with a 68..

But Shaw hit back with scores of 64 in his final two rounds. Wilson could only manage scores of 67 in his final two rounds which gave Shaw victory by one shot with a total score of 262.

Aidan O’Hagan of Old Course Ranfurly finished in third place with his score for 274 and 12 shots behind the eventual winner.

Owen Tweed from England was fourth with a score of 275 and Ross Laird of Glenbervie finished in fifth place with a score of 276.

Ryan Copland hit the best score of the tournament with a round of 65 in the opening 18 holes. But a disappointing final two rounds of 72 meant he finished in sixth place overall with a score of 276.

Lewis Reid of Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club was the top Ross-shire golfer at the championship as he came in seventh with 277.

Sam Hall from England was eighth with 278, Kieran Mackay of Inverness ninth with 279 and Craig Pirie of Millport 10th.
