GOALKEEPER Mark Ridgers fears Inverness Caledonian Thistle have blown the chance to win the Championship after going seven games without a victory.
Inverness suffered a 1–0 defeat at home to Greenock Morton at the Caledonian Stadium last weekend to fall six points behind leaders Arbroath in the title race having played one game more.
Ridgers says it was another frustrating afternoon where they have only managed to pick up four points out of a possible 21 in the last seven matches.
Now he fears failing to take maximum points again could cost them their chance of winning the league and automatic promotion to the Premiership next season.
"It wasn’t just a frustrating afternoon, it has been for the last few games and that game probably proved it that we’ve let ourselves down as players, myself included," said Ridgers.
"As a group it is not good enough, a lot of boys have gone hiding, confidence has been shot and realistically we’ve had an unbelievable chance to get out of this division and it looks like we’ve blown it.
"At the moment you are looking around for players to try and play each other through, but it is one of those where nothing seems to be going at the moment."
Inverness have 12 games remaining in the regular season and are only six points behind Arbroath who have a game in hand on Inverness.
Ridgers says Caley Thistle's excellent start to the campaign has kept them in contention and says they have to rediscover their form which put them on top earlier this season.
"We just need that luck and one result to get us back on track again.
"It is really frustrating when you can’t put your finger on it and we tried different things, different formations and different personnel coming in.
"Hopefully the new boys can give us a boost, because we need something.
"It is not good enough and I don’t know how we are still in the position that we are in the league.
"But at the end of the day it is the beginning of the season that has helped us and we need to go back to the beginning of the season and play the way we played and be hard to beat."
He added: "The beginning of the season has put the expectation right there. We have had so many opportunities to put ourselves in the mix and we keep blowing it in the last month.
"Morton was a great opportunity to put the pressure on Kilmarnock and with the game against Partick, we had the opportunity to go level with Arbroath. That has not happened, we need to get back to training and pick ourselves up.
"Now it is about finding characters in the dressing room to step up. It really needs to matter the most."
