Inverness Caledonian Thistle remain in the relegation zone as they could not hold on to their first half lead as they settled for a point at Dundee United.

Wallace Duffy gave Inverness Caledonian Thistle the lead after 12 minutes.

But Louis Moult levelled nine minutes into the second half with a spectacular effort from the halfway line.

But neither side were able to find a winner as they both settled for a point with a result that did neither side any favours.

The result means Inverness remain in ninth and are three points off Ayr United in eighth with six games of the regular season remaining.

Inverness broke the deadlock after 12 minutes when Aribim Pepple's cross into the box was pushed out by goalkeeper Jack Walton and Duffy was unchallenged to fire the ball into the net from 12-yards.

Dundee United responded with captain Ross Docherty unleashing a thunderous shot that had to be saved by Ridgers to keep them in the lead.

Tony Watt then found himself one on one with Mark Ridgers in a counter attack move. But a terrific save from the goalkeeper kept them in the lead.

Inverness went close to doubling their advantage early in the second half, when Max Anderson saw powerful shot parried by Walton then hit the rebound wide.

But disaster struck for Inverness when Moult scored from halfway after spotting Mark Ridgers off his line. The ball flew over him, bounced and hit the underside of the bar before crossing the line.

United almost took the lead minutes later when Declan Gallagher's shot hit the left post and then the ball fell in front of Ross Graham four yards from goal, but he could only shoot straight at Ridgers.

The Inverness goalkeeper kept his team level when Docherty was unchallenged at a United corner from six-yards out. But Ridgers did magnificently to tip the ball over the bar.

Inverness almost found a winner when James Carragher's shot was saved and Billy Mckay couldn't connect with the rebound to guide it to the net.

Both teams settle for a point with a result that did both teams no favours.
