Newtonmore's reserve side were two points behind the Invergarry outfit going into their final game of the season and needed to win by at least five goals to lift the title.

They took a 2-0 lead into half time through goals from Craig Macleod and Glen Mackintosh before running riot in the second half with Macleod scoring three more times by the 70th minute.

Mackintosh then scored twice in the last 10 minutes to secure the title.

It is the fourth year in-a-row Newtonmore have won the North Division One title but as a reserve side they are ineligible for promotion to the National Division.

The result means that South Division One champions Aberdour will receive automatic promotion to the National Division and there will be no play-off with the North Division One champions.

It has not been confirmed if Bute will be relegated from the National Division or if the Camanachd Association proposes to have eight of nine teams in the league next season.

Last season no team was automatically relegated from the National Division.

But Inverness, who finished bottom of the National Division in 2018, requested to be demoted to North Division One, two weeks before the 2019 season started.
