In North Division Three, Beauly stay top after their scheduled opponents Kilmallie scratched. Boleskine consolidated second place with a 7-1 win over Lewis, while Inverness, with new recruit David Wylde scoring twice on his debut, beat Strathglass 3-2 at the Bught.

The match featured a father and daughter combination with Laura Gallagher being joined by her father James in the Lovat line-up.

Glenurquhart and Kingussie shared the points after a 3-3 draw at the Dell, but Lovat were edged out 1-0 by Aberdeen University at Balgate.

In the Marine Harvest leagues, runaway North Division Two leaders Newtonmore lost their 100 per cent record after going down 2-1 to Fort William.

Lochaber hit Lochcarron for eight without reply with Scott Paterson top scoring with a hat-trick, while Kilmory, with a 3-2 win over Taynuilt, complete the roster of the six intermediate clubs going into the draw for the second round.

Skye stunned Caberfeidh with a 5-2 victory in Portree with doubles from youngsters Neil MacVicar and Jordan Murchison ending the Strathpeffer side’s interest in the cup.

Beauly enjoyed the bulk of the pressure in the second half and a Ryan Tillman strike five minutes from the end eventually sealed the tie.

Marc MacLachlan fired Beauly ahead in the ninth minute and a David MacLean strike in the 32nd minute extended their lead. Oban, however, rallied and Ally MacKerracher reduced the leeway a minute before half-time.

Beauly made heavy weather of their tie against Oban Celtic, but there will be relief in the Braeview camp after their 3-1 victory brought an end to a three-game losing streak.

Strathglass had a confidence-boosting 5-2 win over Aberdour at Cannich with player/manager Robert Geddes hitting a hat-trick. Mark MacLeod and Donald Fraser were the other Strath scorers with Cammy MacCue weighing in with a double for the Fife team.

It was also the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup and Glasgow Mid Argyll produced the biggest shock, beating Oban Camanachd 4-2 in Yoker.

All the goals came in the final 30 minutes of the game — Ewan Campbell and Robbie MacLeod scoring for Kyles and Lewis Tawse and Greg Matheson for Lovat.

Lovat travelled South with four of their first-team regulars missing, but their slightly makeshift team produced a battling performance to pull off their best result against Kyles since gaining promotion to the Premiership three seasons ago.

Lovat move into second place to trail Newtonmore by two points after holding Kyles Athletic to a 2-2 draw at Strachur.

With six regulars missing, including talisman Gary Innes, they were no match for league leaders Newtonmore, who won 3-0 with Danny MacRae scoring twice.

Fort William lost their third league match in succession and have plummeted down the table to sit on the edge of the relegation zone.

A Garry MacPherson penalty 16 minutes from the end of the game gave Inveraray a 1-0 victory over Bute in the Argyll derby at the Winterton. It was a much-needed two points for the Royal Burgh side, who move level with Fort William on the six-point mark.

Kilmallie won their first league match of the 2012 season as they knocked high-flying Kinlochshiel off their perch with John Stewart netting twice in a 2 -1 victory.

The point moves the Glen into the safety of mid-table, but there will be no room for complacency with basement clubs Kilmallie and Inveraray both winning.

Kingussie forced an equaliser five minutes after the break with Martin Dallas on target and with 10 minutes remaining, Ross edged them in front once again before Urquhart swooped at the death with a dramatic equaliser.

Ronald Ross eased the Kings in front in the 10th minute, but the Glen sprung to life after that and Fraser Heath struck twice in the 13th and 26th minutes.

MacLennan’s dismissal will have a heavy cost as he will be suspended for Saturday’s opening round of the MacAulay Cup and more importantly the Glen’s MacTavish Cup semi-final clash with Newtonmore the following week.

An entertaining match, however, ended controversially when the Glen’s Lewis MacLennan was red carded by referee Graham Irving in the final minute after an incident involving Kingussie’s Iain Borthwick. Borthwick received a yellow for his part in the affray, but many in the Glen camp felt that he too should have got red.

A LAST minute goal from Billy Urquhart rescued a point for Glenurquhart in their Orion Group Premiership match against Kingussie at Blairbeg.
