WITH the 2013 season due to start in a week’s time, Inverness have been rocked by the departure of one of their top players to Premier Division side Kinlochshiel.
Davie Glass has been dubbed ‘Mr Inverness’, but his desire to play in the top flight sees him depart the club he has played for since primary school.
Glass, who can operate in either defence or midfield, will be sorely missed by Inverness, although club President Peter Gow was putting a very brave face on what will be a desperately disappointing turn of events.
"We fully appreciate Davie’s desire to play at the top level, while he is still young enough and that is totally understandable," he said. "He has been a wonderful servant to the club and we wish him well."
Gow rejected suggestions that Glass had become disillusioned at the Bught with the sudden departure of manager Callum McLeod the final straw in a difficult 12 months which also saw previous joint managers Stevie Munro and James MacDougall stand down.
Meanwhile, it is the last round of pre-season friendlies tomorrow before the real action starts on Saturday 2nd March.
Glenurquhart take on Premier Division champions Newtonmore in a slightly unfortunate piece of scheduling that will see the Drumnadrochit club repeat the fixture on the opening day of the season.
Lovat head for Portree to defend the Thomas Ferguson Cup, while Beauly head to An Aird to take on Fort William.
