CALEY Thistle defender Gary Warren was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken leg after his side's 1-0 defeat to Motherwell.

The defender, stand-in captain in the absence of Richie Foran, was on the receiving end of a hefty challenge from Stephen Pearson and was carried off before the break.

His manager John Hughes confirmed after the match that Warren had been taken in an ambulance to hospital and the hope is that there is no break in his leg.

It was not a day for Caley Thistle to look back on fondly, going down 1-0 disappointingly to a Wes Fletcher goal in the fourth minute.

Couple with Warren's injury, Richie Foran and Aaron Doran missed out on the match-day squad altogether while Josh Meekings was taken off at half-time.

Hughes was left counting the cost on his already threadbare squad, with the luck that saw them go through much of last season injury-free deserting them.

"It's massive. Gary is our captain and we're hoping he'll be alright. If there's no crack or break then he'll play next week," said Hughes.

"I couldn't tell you what Josh's injury was - I haven't spoken to him. He came off and went straight into the physio's room.

"Everything went for us last year but injuries are creeping up. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. It's part and parcel of football."

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough was pleased with his side's display and believed the outcome could have been more comfortable.

Scott McDonald missed a first-half penalty and Caley Thistle goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams made a number of key stops for his side.

"To get a clean sheet and three points away from home, against a side that did really well last year, you can't really ask for more," he said.

"We could have won by more and made it easier for ourselves. Scott is disappointed but the keeper has guessed the right way. All you ask of a penalty taker is to get it on target and he did that."

Midfielder Pearson, who was replaced at half-time, will be assessed after a collision with Warren in the first half.
