Callum Johnson believes Ross County’s draw against Dundee United was a missed opportunity to take all three points in Dingwall.

The Staggies took a first half lead through Ross Callachan, only for Tony Watt to turn in an equaliser after the restart.

County pushed for a winner that would have seen them rise clear of their opponents and into ninth in the Scottish Premiership table, but it was not to be.

Johnson – who missed a golden opportunity to head in a winner with the last touch of the game – felt his side had done enough to win, but was trying to see the silver lining.

“I think it’s probably two points dropped,” he said.

“In the first half we were probably the better side, and we obviously went 1–0 up.

“We knew they would come out well in the second half, and they did, but we sank in a little bit.

“I thought we showed good character to have a go in the last 10 minutes and we could have won the game.

“My header, the last touch of the game, went wide, so I think it’s probably two points dropped but we played a lot better than we did a couple of weeks ago, so we have to try and take the positives from it.”

County were at least able to end an unwanted record.

Saturday was the first time the Staggies have scored in the first half of a Premiership match all season. They came under more pressure in the second, but Johnson is sure they will learn lessons and improve again next time out.

“I felt like we were in control and the better side in the first half,” he added.

“The second half wasn’t as good as the first half, so we’ll need to look at why that was.

“I think their wing-backs pushed higher, causing us some problems, and I’m sure they will have had a kick up the backside at half time to come out well.

“They got an equaliser which was disappointing, but I thought we played well – we just could have created a bit more. We’ve got to take the positives and try and eradicate the negatives for the next match.”
