DAVID Carson says Inverness Caledonian Thistle can rescue their promotion dream and secure at least a play-off spot at the end of the regular season in the Championship.

Caley Thistle have gone 11 games without a win after their 1–0 defeat to Partick Thistle in Glasgow last Friday.

They have now dropped down to fourth, the final position for the play-offs and 11 points behind leaders Arbroath.

Carson says the responsibility is now on the players to finish in the top-four at the end of the regular season and at least give themselves a chance of competing for a place in the top flight next season.

“We have eight cup finals now,“ said Carson.

“That might sound cliché, but we just have to go and play game by game.

“We need to dust ourselves down and take the positives from the Partick game.

“We now face Arbroath, which will be the first of our eight cup finals and it starts for us on Saturday.”

Carson says Inverness were unfortunate to leave with nothing from Firhill.

Kevin Holt’s low drive five minutes from time gave Partick all three points and kept their title aspirations alive with two games in hand on the top two.

Carson felt they deserved something from the game and says it has been a frustrating 2022, where they have failed to win a game this year.

“In the second half we were the better team,” thought Carson.

“The substitutes made an impact on the game and chances were coming our way.

“But the ball didn’t seem to settle for one of the strikers to get a good connection.

“The pitch didn’t help, but that is no excuse, there was only one team in the second half who looked like threatening.

“To lose a goal from a set piece was disappointing, and the result was a kick in the teeth for us.”

Carson says the most frustrating aspect about their winless run is in the games where they were defeated, they have only lost by one goal.

“If you look at the results that we have had, they haven’t gone our way.

“But if you look at the character and the desire from players, it is not for the lack of trying.

“It is just not falling for us.

“It feels like everyone is saying the same things, but at the end of the day we are training well and we are putting in good performances, albeit not always in the majority of games.”
