THE duel with the weather continues for Highland as a busy match weekend approaches.

The 1st XV take on Hillfoots at Canal Park and will again have to go through training knowing the weather may force another call-off.

Hillfoots have already given Highland two close matches this season, with a defeat in the Regional Shield in August followed by a league victory in October. Coach Dave Carson is very confident his squad can secure some important league points.

With no games so far in 2015, the squad has had the benefit of players recovering from injury and consequently the player pool is back up to full strength.

The match is important for both sides as this season the promotion and relegation places are flexible. leaving the possibility of Highland being in the promotion play-offs.

Highland’s 2nd XV are due to play Fraserburgh at Canal Park, but with three matches scheduled for 2pm kick-offs and not all of the pitches in good condition, the game might be switched to Fraserburgh.

The other game in question is the rescheduled under-18 National Cup match against West of Scotland.

On Sunday there will be a cup game for the under-16s that hit the headlines during the week. Highland contravened competition rules by not playing Peebles last Sunday, as many of their players had exam prelims the next day.

Highland have been reprimanded and warned as to their future conduct by the SRU as a result, but crucially have been allowed to remain in the competition.

Highland were grateful for the reprieve, with the youngsters and their coaches looking forward to a challenging match.

The under-15s also play in the Caledonia Cup and travel to Orkney.
