ITALIAN Francesco Molinari has scored a magical 62 to lead the way at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

This score not only broke the record for the Inverness links, but also matched the lowest round in the history of the tournament.

His sizzling form saw him sit in the Castle Stuart clubhouse after round one at 10 under par bolstered by hitting 10 birdies, that's two shots ahead of Alejandro Canizares from Spain, who hit nine birdies.

In joint third spot, three shots behind Molinari is Norwegian Soren Kjeldsen and Italian Rafael Jacquelin.

Molinari began the day alongside Louis Oosthuizen and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher and had moved to six under par, one shot ahead of Swede Anders Hansen by mid-morning.

He finished just behind winner Marcel Siem at the recent French Open, scoring nine under par in his final 17 holes and clearly he's still in top form.

World number one, and holder of this title, Luke Donald started with South African Ernie Els and Scots ace Richie Ramsay and is five shots behind Molinari.
