Last year’s winner at Inverness was Paul Shields (Kirkhill), who is presently third in the order of merit table with 414 points. Ahead of him is Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) on 643 points, while at the top with 754 points is Jim White (Lundin Links).

With another 125 points available to the winner and just two counting events remaining, the north golfers bidding to halt a run of six years without a home win at this event has been made all the more difficult.

Bryan Fotheringham (Inverness) was the last north golfer to lift the Blair Trophy at Moray in 2004 and with his proven record in competitions in the Highlands this season, he must be considered a strong threat.

Fortrose and Rosemarkie’s North District club team champions, Mike MacDonald, Chris Gaittens and Lewis Reid are included in the field of 75 who play 36 holes tomorrow before the field is cut to 40 for Sunday’s final, again over 36 holes.
