Alan MacPherson of Tanera Camans has donated the equipment to Tomnacross Primary School as the sport has returned to the school for the first time in 14 years.

Tomnacross Primary won the MacKay Cup for the first time in the school’s history in 1992 as part of the Schools Camanachd-run competition and retained the trophy in 1993.

MacPherson played for Tomnacross at that time, as well as for Lovat Shinty Club, when he picked up two MacKay Cup winner’s medals.

He went on to become the owner of Tanera Camans, making sticks for most shinty clubs in the Highlands.

Shinty in the school stopped when head teacher, Graham Bell retired in 2008.

After a long gap shinty has returned to the school with the help of parent coaches Fiona Urquhart and Steven Ogston.

Class teacher Roxanne Main school has entered a Tomnacross team in this year’s MacKay Cup competition.

The school is presently fundraising to buy team sportswear and equipment for

the team.

There is a real excitement about this in the school and community.

Most of the team are already playing shinty for their local club, Lovat who are

pleased to see shinty again be back in Tomnacross.

The majority of the current Lovat senior and junior teams all attended Tomnacross and played in various school teams coached.
