The post-season restructuring of Strathspey Thistle continues with the appointment of former Nairn County manager Ronnie Sharp as assistant manager today.

Sharp (58) joins the Grantown club after almost two years away from the Highland League, having stepped down from his role as manager of Nairn in September 2022.

The experienced coach and former striker comes in as number two to recently appointed first team manager Bobby Beckwith, who was announced at the beginning of the month alongside executive duo sporting director, Josh Horton and director of football, Fraser Tulloch.

On Sharp’s addition to the fold, Horton said: “Bobby and Ronnie — I genuinely don’t think there’s a better combination of managers. As far as a wealth of experience, I don’t think you’ll get anything better.

Manager Bobby Beckwith said: “I know Ronnie well, and we’ve faced each other a lot. He has massive experience and he did a fantastic job at Nairn.

“He had been coming down to watch Strathspey at the end of last season, so I thought I’d give him a ring and see if he was interested in coming on board, and he was delighted to come in.

“I’m not a big one for titles, but more than an assistant manager, he’ll be a coach. He’s a great coach, and as a management team we’ll both have our say.

“For me, it’ll be one of the biggest signings we’ll make this season.”

Sharp joins the club on a two-year contract, mirroring the commitment of Beckwith and the majority of the club’s recent signings, including club captain James McShane.

The former Nairn boss spent five years in charge of the Station Park after making a return to the club in 2016. His initial spell came to a close 12 years earlier.
