Former Highland Rugby Club winger turned professional rugby player Jacob Henry to step up to Edinburgh first team for 2023/24 season

Former Dingwall Academy pupil Jacob Henry will be playing first team rugby for Edinburgh next season.
The 22-year-old progressed through the Scottish Rugby academy system, earning the MacPhail Scholarship that saw him spend time in South Africa in 2019 before being allocated to Edinburgh two years later.
He is yet to make his senior debut for Edinburgh, but he did feature for Scotland in the 2020 Under-20 Six Nations and also moved briefly into sevens competition, representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last summer – scoring a try against Tonga and a hat-trick against Malaysia.
Henry was in the youth ranks at Ross Sutherland, before making the switch to Highland where he made his senior debut as a teenager.
From there, he moved south to the Fosroc Academy, where he also represented Heriot's in Super6 competition.
Action has been limited for the winger in recent months, though, as he has been out of action with a knee injury sustained in training last season.
“I’m really chuffed to be stepping up into the senior squad," Henry told Edinburgh's website.
“I can’t wait to kick on and make the most of the season I have left when back to full fitness.”
Alongside Henry, Jamie Campbell will also be stepping up to Edinburgh's first team picture, with the 22-year-old lock having similarly impressed in Super6 action.
Edinburgh academy coach, Rob Chrystie added: “Jake and Jamie have both worked really hard to earn this opportunity. They deserve the chance to step up to the senior squad, where they’ll be hoping to push the guys ahead of them and make an impact in 2023/24.
“Jake is making steady progress from a knee injury sustained in training last year and we’re happy with how he is advancing through the early stages of pre-season.
"Jamie continues to show a real grit and determination in training, and he is improving all the time plying his trade in a pro-environment.
“We’re delighted to see both guys progress into the senior ranks. It showcases the strengths of the pro academy pathway we’ve developed and are continually trying to develop here at Edinburgh Rugby.”
