ALEX Chisholm says he resigned as chairman of Clachnacuddin as the club’s supporters trust felt they needed a new board in place to take them forward in the Highland League.

Chisholm stood down as chairman, along with directors Chris Forbes and Scott Dowling resigning from their roles at the Highland League club, with the announcement made on Sunday morning.

It came after Clachnacuddin lost 2-0 to Brechin City on Saturday, which has left them second bottom of the Highland League.

Chisholm said that the trio stood down from their roles after speaking with the board of the club’s supporters trust, who want a new board in place to take charge of the club going forward.

Explaining the reasons behind the decision for the trio resigning, Chisholm said: “The supporters trust are looking to take in a new board at Clachnacuddin and move the club on.

“I am the first to support the club moving on, but they want a new board in place.

“I can’t say more than that at present, but that was the key decision behind it.

“Maybe I wasn’t part of the plans.

“They have decided that a change was needed.”

Chisholm had been chairman of Clachnacuddin for eight years and a director for 10 years. He says to have been chairman of Clachnacuddin was one of the greatest honours of his life.

He said: “For me it has been a privilege and a honour to serve as chairman of Clachnacuddin for the last eight years.

“We had a few ups and downs like every club has had to deal with in the last few years.

“But I want to thank everyone who supported the board and that is support which we never took for granted.

"From my point of view, we have a decent young manager in Conor Gethins. We have a good young side who will only improve in the future and I am confident they can do great things.”

A statement from Clachnacuddin confirmed the trio’s departure.

They said: “The club would like to put on record our huge appreciation for the efforts and commitment of Alex, Scott and Chris throughout the many of years of involvement at the football club.

“And particularly their continued support in ensuring a smooth transition between now and the end of the season whilst handing over their individual responsibilities.”
