Former Brora Rangers manager Steven Mackay set to be named new Nairn County boss
STEVEN Mackay will this morning be unveiled as Nairn County’s new manager after agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal with the Highland League outfit.
Mackay, who will be assisted by ex-Brora Rangers coach David Hind, succeeds Ronnie Sharp who stepped down on September 21 after a winless start to the season.
The 41-year-old will immediately take his place in the technical area for tomorrow night’s home fixture against Inverurie Locos.
The Nairn County board is understood to have favoured Mackay’s proven track record over fellow applicant Conor Gethins, the Nairn striker, who had also thrown his hat in the ring.
It is not known whether the Irishman will now continue as a squad member at Station Park, but remains under contract.
Mackay, the former Ross County, Elgin City and Peterhead midfielder and striker, enjoyed a prolific goalscoring spell at Nairn from 2009 to 2012.

He then took that prowess to Brora Rangers amassing a remarkable 210 goals for the club, with two Highland League title successes and five cup final successes.
Mackay’s three-year reign as Brora manager also brought two Highland League titles during the pandemic disrupted seasons of 2019/20 and 2020/2, plus a famous March 2021 Scottish Cup win over Hearts.
Mackay, a facilities director with the Salford and Dunfermline-based firm Langfields, stepped down as Elgin City assistant in June after almost a year, citing work commitments.
However, Nairn were happy to accommodate his work situation which is expected to ease.
