Duncan Ferguson's unbeaten start at Caley Thistle has stretched to 3 games after recording a cagey 1-0 victory at home to Airdrieonians on Saturday.

The decisive goal which came from new signing David Wotherspoon on his ICT debut means it is now 7 points from a possible 9 since Ferguson took charge.

A shift in the mindset of the fans has seen positivity that this start can continue throughout the season, echoed from North Stand season ticket holder Joanne Bain.

Joanne, who has been attending home and away matches with her son Euan for many years, believed the result was one that was a long time coming as it marked their first home league victory in over 6 months.

"It was good to see a league win at the Caledonian Stadium for the first time since 11th April, a long overdue and hard fought victory!

"Since Duncan Ferguson took over as manager we have won 2 , drew 1, 7 points, an excellent start, lets hope it continues onto Dundee United next Saturday."

Joanne conceded that despite picking up the 3 points, the match itself was not a classic.

"The game was very bland especially in the first half.

"It only begun to liven up when Airdrie moved up the gears chasing for an equaliser."

Some of the stand-out performers that Joanne noted for helping push Caley Thistle towards the vital victory included new arrivals at the club this season, including debutant David Wotherspoon who nicked the winning goal during the first half.

"Udjur has looked really good at the back alongside Boyes who sadly is out injured, he made some crucial blocks in the game against Airdrie, the defence has looked totally different and with a lot more confidence since his arrival.

"Another player who impressed and on his league debut was Wotherspoon, he took control of the midfield and connected us from the centre to the forwards on the pitch.

"He certainly filled a hole in the team that has become apparent and his goal to top off what was a great debut was just the cherry on the cake.

"It was very unfortunate to see Luis Longstaff go off injured, he was my man of the match due to him controlling his side of the pitch by tracking back and helping whilst also always being involved up front, hopefully its not another long term injury to add to the list."

Caley Thistle remain in 9th place in the Scottish Championship after the result, however the gap to the midfield and the visibility of safety is much closer, with Dunfermline Athletic just 3 points ahead in 8th place.

Joanne knows that work still needs to be done to improve overall performances if Caley Thistle are looking to move up the league soon.

"Since Duncan Ferguson took over as manager we have won 2 and drawn 1, 7 points is an excellent start so lets hope it continues onto Dundee United next Saturday.

"The performance will have to improve vastly on the field to take anything from the game against United as they are looking like running away with the title already.

"We still lack in the goal department, maybe Cillian Sheridan will be the answer, we badly need a striker who we can rely on for more than one goal every 5 games and look at a much more consistent goal scorer.
