Billy Mckay says his previous spells with Inverness Caledonian Thistle convinced him to return to the club this summer.

The 32-year-old striker has rejoined his old club on a two-year deal after being released by Ross County at the end of the season.

Inverness has been a happy hunting ground for Mckay in the past, scoring 62 goals in 141 appearances in his first spell – which coincided with the club’s rise into the Premiership’s top six.

His form saw current Ross County boss Malky Mackay snap him up for Wigan Athletic, then in the English Championship, but it was not long before he was back in Scotland on loan, then moving to Dingwall permanently.

“I’m delighted to be back,” said Mckay after signing at Inverness.

“Obviously I’ve had great times here in the past, some of my best times in football have been here, so I can’t wait to get going.

“Obviously knowing the club before, that was a big factor.

“Living in the area for as long as I have was another factor, my family is settled here, and how much the club wanted me was a big factor too.”

Last time Mckay played in the Championship, he scored 20 goals as Ross County lifted the second-tier title.

He believes his best form came with the Caley Jags though, so he is hoping to create even more memories in front of the Inverness faithful when they are allowed to return to matches in greater numbers.

“Hopefully I can get back to that form,” he said.

“I had my most prolific spell here, and one thing I want to be doing is scoring goals.

“I believe I can still do that.

“I hope the fans are back in the stadium as soon as possible.

“I can’t wait to play in front of them again, and hopefully I can score goals in front of them again.”
