DUNCAN Ferguson says he will look to change his approach to referees after being sent off for the second time this season.

The Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager received a straight red card after full time in the 2-0 defeat against Airdrie in the Scottish Championship on Tuesday.

Last month, Ferguson was also sent off when Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Queen's Park 4-1 at Hampden Park.

Ferguson says he will not be appealing the red card he received at the Excelsior Stadium on Tuesday and is suspended from the dugout in the match against Ayr.

He says he will look to change his approach to referees to avoid being sent off again this season.

Speaking about being sent off, he said: "I do personally think it was harsh, but i'll defend my corner.

"I was surprised, but there are rules that if you confront the referee it is a straight red.

I was surprised it is a straight red, but if you approach the referee in that manner he is obliged to give you a straight red.

"I went in to speak to the referee after the match and everything was civil, he explained the situation and I apologised and we move on.

"I think I have to change my approach because I can't be getting suspended and put in the stand.

"I have to think about myself and how I speak to referees to be honest.

"I am getting a one game suspension. I will serve that suspension I will not appeal and hopefully it won't happen again."

After Ferguson was sent off in the win over Queen's Park, Ferguson was forced to sit in the stands at Cappielow for the 2-1 defeat against Greenock Morton.

Ferguson admitted it was difficult sitting in the stand and not being able to give instructions to his team.

He said: "It was difficult in the Morton game particularly at half time and I couldn't go in after the game. It is not easy, but it is what it is. I am surprised with how hastily I was sent to the stands, but if those are the rules I have to learn the rules."

Ferguson says he would like to see a fourth official introduced at Championship level, saying he was surprised that there wasn't, when he first arrived to take the reins in Inverness.

"When I first came in I was surprised there was not a fourth official. It's a tough job and when you have to deal with someone like me it can't be easy for them.

"I would only say if possible a fourth official would help them control the technical area."

Ferguson says he will be looking to bring in new players during the January transfer window in a bid to improve their position in the Championship where they are currently in eighth place.

"We are using a lot of contacts and we have contacted a lot of clubs," he said.

"It is not easy to get players to Inverness, but we are fighting other clubs for a lot of quality players. We are exploring all avenues to get quality players up here, but I am confident we can get a couple."
