Wallace Duffy believes there is still more to come from Inverness Caledonian Thistle after their 4–0 victory over Albion Rovers in the Premier Sports Cup group stage.

The Caley Jags moved to within a point of qualifying for the second round thanks to goals from Duffy, Billy Mckay and a double from Cameron Harper.

On paper, Inverness did exactly what was required of them, so while getting the job done was pleasing, Duffy was adamant they are still not at peak performance.

“I don’t even think we were at our best,” the 23-year-old defender explained.

“If you’d asked us before the game if we would take 4–0, we would have said yes.

“They had a few chances themselves to score, we rode our luck a bit, but I think anyone would take a 4–0 win.

“We can play better, though, definitely.”

Most of Albion Rovers’ chances came in the opening stretch of the match, albeit after Mckay had already put Caley Thistle ahead.

It was end-to-end football for the first 10 minutes of the game, with Cameron Mackay forced into making two saves in quick succession.

Inverness got through those scares and would go on to look comfortable in their lead, but Duffy would like to see more total control going forward.

“It was a bit like basketball at the start – we kept giving the ball away, and they were hitting us on the break,” the former St Johnstone man admitted.

“We talked about moving the ball nice and quickly, but also taking care of it, and I don’t think we did that in the first five or 10 minutes.

“We grew into it, and we started keeping it a bit better.

“We didn’t want it to be as frantic as that obviously, but they never scored thankfully, so it was okay in the end.”
