Inverness Caledonian Thistle defender Wallace Duffy says they only have themselves to blame after slipping into the Championship’s relegation play-off place.

Ayr United’s draw at Raith Rovers, coupled with Caley Thistle’s defeat to Morton, saw Inverness slip down the table to ninth, with only Alloa below them.

It has not just been one night that has seen Inverness fall into danger though; recent form has not been good enough, with just one win in their last 12 games.

Duffy knows that, and took responsibility for the predicament after Tuesday’s defeat.

“We’ve put ourselves in this position,” the 21-year-old insisted.

“We had the opportunities to pull ourselves away, and week in and week out for the past five or six weeks, we have put ourselves in it.

“We know where we are, and we know what we have to do.

“We have to change something to get out of that relegation zone.”

Wet and windy conditions appeared to make it difficult for both sets of players, but Duffy was adamant the weather could not be used as an excuse.

Instead, he blamed their lack of creativity and work ethic for coming away from the match empty-handed, saying ICT were simply not good enough.

“From the first whistle we didn’t create anything,” Duffy reasoned.

“We didn’t pass it well enough, we didn’t do anything the gaffer told us to do to be honest.

“He made it clear at half time that we were just doing our own thing, but even in the second half we never got to grips with it.

“We let ourselves down massively there.

“There’s no point in just standing in areas that look nice, you’ve got to try and open a team up with movement and create those gaps. We didn’t do any of that, so everything we did was pointless.”
