Wallace Duffy says Inverness Caledonian Thistle have shown on the road this season why they are contenders to win the Championship and gain promotion to the top flight.

After suffering a blip in form in August with defeats to Partick Thistle and Greenock Morton, Inverness have put their league campaign back on track with impressive victories at Raith Rovers and Dundee.

Saturday sees fourth place Inverness travel down to Ayr United who are second in the table, three points ahead.

Duffy says results at Kirkcaldy and Dundee should send Inverness to Somerset Park with no fear.

“We had a wee bad run, if you can call it that, for just three games,” he said.

“Brechin City last weekend in the Trust Trophy saw us show a bit of a lack of concentration.

“But we got through the games and we have had two good away results, so the boys are full of confidence.”

Duffy says it is their away form which has got Inverness back to where they are in the top half of the table and is confident they can move level of points with Ayr by beating them on Saturday.

“I always feel like when we go away from home we are a decent team,” he said.

“Especially going to places like Dens Park and Stark’s Park and picking up wins.

“Those results have got us back to the top end of the table, we are only three points off the top.

“A few weeks ago, we were seven points behind, so it shows you how quick things can turn in this league.

“The incentive on Saturday is beating one of the top teams in the league and having a chance of first place. If we win that is three away wins on the trot, it doesn’t get better than that.”
