A scrappy game at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium was decided by the energetic runs of Inverness' forwards.

Chances for either side were few and far between, but George Oakley missed a golden opportunity, heading over the bar at an open goal when it really looked easier to score.

But Oakley would redeem himself, after being forced out wide his burst of pace back inside allowed him space to slip in Aaron Doran.

Though the Dundee United keeper got a hand to it, the ball bounced into the back of the net for what would turn out to be the winner.

Daniel Mackay came on and spurned a couple of good opportunities, and Scott McDonald had one sight of goal for the visitors in the second half, but the rest of the game otherwise passed without incident.
