Head coach Billy Dodds says Inverness Caledonian Thistle's confidence is shot to pieces as they lost 1–0 to Greenock Morton to go seven games without victory in the Championship.

He says he is determined to find a solution to get the team back to winning ways after falling six points behind league leaders Arbroath in the title race as they lie in third place.

Dodds says the defeat at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday was their worst performance of the season and is determined things change.

"We’re really shot to pieces confidence-wise right now and I need to get to the bottom of it - and I will," said Dodds.

“But they have to show more themselves because I was expecting a really on the front foot performance today.

“We probably turned in one of our worst performances of the season.”

Speaking about the result, he said: “We didn’t do enough. I tried to go attacking and went with two attacking wing-backs and, I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think the shape worked as well as I thought.

“I thought we’d take the game to them, we’re not in a good place confidence-wise right now and a few of them just accepted it today.

“I have to get them going again.

“We’ll go again and we’ll look to make it happen, but the boys have got to find that within themselves as well.

“Just do something that makes it happen for you, the ugly side of the game and then the confidence comes."

Dodds says Caley Thistle still have a chance of winning the Championship, being only six points behind Arbroath.

However, he lamented they have not taken more of their chances in games and says they should be in a better position.

“We should be sitting higher, but I think that confidence has been affected by some of the points we’ve thrown away," he said.

“We’ve seen two points slip away in certain games and then the confidence sinks.

“But we have to have a bigger mentality about us to go, ‘okay then - let’s make it good - we’ve got a chance here’.

“But we seemed to accept it against Morton. Dougie Imrie has them working hard but I said to them to match it and we have better players, I believe.

“For some reason, we just weren’t at it. It was a horrible day, so just scrap away and make something happen.

“That was their goal. We needed something like that.

“The players have got to make it happen. I’m trying to do everything down there to try and lift it.

“I’ve got to look at the shape I put out and say 3-5-2 never quite worked.

“I take full responsibility, but when you put it out there, they are the ones who have got to do something that will give them that confidence back.

“They are that short of confidence, I’m not sure they could handle that just now.

“I can’t wait to get them going again, because I know when they play they are good players. They are kind of wondering now where they’re at - and I just need them to go and make it happen.

“It is up to me to get some weak-minded ones out of the team and get boys who are just going to scrap and just get the confidence back again."
