Victor Loturi flew 4000 miles to join Ross County – but, as his old coach in Canada would say, distance means nothing to the 21-year-old.

According to Thomas Wheeldon Junior, the Liverpudlian head coach of Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC, Loturi is never shy of covering ground and putting in the hard yards.

Wheeldon is quoted as saying of County’s new signing: “Two-thirds of the world is covered in water, the rest by Victor Loturi.”

That is sure to be one of the traits that attracted Staggies’ manager Malky Mackay to the central midfielder.

Wheeldon also said: “Victor has exceptional technical ability and game intelligence that allowed us to use him as a key part of our possession play. He also has an incredible engine that provided us with great energy throughout our games. Through hard work, patience, and perseverance, he took his chance and never looked back.”

Loturi’s creativity is clearly matched by a powerful work ethic and the Canadian of Sudanese descent said: “I like to get on the ball and play. I like to run, but also help my team defensively.

“I am a player who has plenty of energy and I like to bring that to the team, so that’s what they will get out of me.

“I want to score, assist and help the team in any way I can, including defensively.

“I’m very excited. I got here on Monday and I’m just getting started. I am excited for the journey ahead.

“We had a pretty similar stadium at Calvary, quite compact, but the fans can still be super loud. That gives me energy and I enjoy it.”

Loturi adds to County’s Canadian connection just as countryman Harry Paton’s exit is confirmed, but that has not fazed Loturi.

“I’ve seen games between Celtic and Rangers and I’m super excited to play against them,” he said.

“I had a good conversation with the manager and he says he believes in me, so I am just eager to get out there now and play.”
