DAVE Newsham could not follow up his successes from Snetterton and Knockhill as he struggled at Rockingham.

The 45-year-old British Touring Car Championship driver, from Inverness, finished 13th in qualifying on the Saturday and it did not get much better 24 hours later.

Newsham came home 12th in race one, before finishing down in 15th next time out.

In race three, there was to be no consolation, just more woe to compound what was a difficult weekend for Newsham and Team ES Racing.

In an extract of his latest diary instalment, written exclusively for the Inverness Courier, Newsham teels of his disappoitment at how events panned out in race two.

For race two, the heavens opened and we faced a very wet track.

Making another cracking start, I was up behind works MG driver Andy Neat. I literally could not see anything other than his back lights through the spray.

I just waited for his brake lights to come on at the first hairpin, then I braked. However, he out-braked himself and we both went wide. I literally had to make a three point turn to get back to the circuit!

I soon caught the tailenders and started passing cars when I hit a large puddle and aquaplaned off the circuit, through the gravel trap. I just managed to extract myself and got back onto the circuit.

A long way down and in last place again, I started to close in again and managed to pick a few drivers off. Into the final corner, I passed Rob Austin in the Audi to take the final point in 15th place, but it was still disappointing.
