Robbie Deas believes there is a renewed focus towards the Premier Sports Cup among the Inverness Caledonian Thistle ranks.

Two wins in their first two group games have put the Caley Jags in a commanding position to qualify for the second round.

That is something the club has not done in six years, and Deas says in his time in the Highland capital they may have been guilty of treating the competition as no more than a warm-up for league action.

However, that is not the case this season, with Inverness desperate to top their group and go as far as they can in the competition.

“Some people in the past, even me, have seen the competition as preparation, but that’s not the case at all this year and the gaffer has made sure to tell us that,” the 22-year-old defender, in his third campaign with ICT, insisted.

“In my first year up here, the season started late because of Covid.

“With the restrictions, there weren’t many games played beforehand, so it probably was our way of trying to get fit, which was a shame.

“Last season, I was injured in the first friendly, so I missed a lot of pre-season and didn’t play many matches.

“This season, we’ve managed to keep a good amount of boys fit, myself included, so I am enjoying the chance to play in these games.

“I’m from Kinross next to Kelty, so it was nice to play against them down there.

“I had a lot of family and friends watching, and then I got the opportunity to play against Premiership opponents, Livingston, so you relish these opportunities.

“The fact we have put ourselves in this position, we need to go and deliver.

“Ultimately, I want to win every game I play. We’re in it to win it. We want to top the group and that’s what we will try to do.”
