George Harmon believes Ross County have plenty of reason to be encouraged by their performance away at Kilmarnock – even if it was frustrating to come away from Rugby Park empty-handed.

Daniel Armstrong’s first half strike gave the Ayrshire outfit all three points, but it was Killie goalkeeper Zach Hemming who had the higher volume and quality of saves to make.

Owura Edwards, Jordy Hiwula and Jordan White all had clear sights of goal, but none of them were able to make a breakthrough.

Harmon, then, felt that the end result was not reflective of the balance of the game, but admitted that was only a slim silver lining in the end.

“It was a bit annoying not to get the three points,” he said.

“For the first 15 minutes I thought we were the better team. They had a bit of momentum in the middle of the first half but then we went into half time on the front foot.

“The manager just said to keep the momentum going from the first half.

“The last 15 minutes (of the first half) were ours, so we just had to keep pushing for the goal.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get it, but we created a lot of chances and that’s what you need.

“Obviously it’s disappointing not to put the chances away, but we’re creating them, and hopefully in the games coming up we can put them away to put more points on the board.”

It was a particularly disappointing result for the Staggies, still bottom of the table, as Kilmarnock had been level on points with them going into the weekend.

“At the minute we just need to stick together,” Harmon reasoned.

“It’s a good group we’ve got in the dressing room – on and off the pitch.

“Training has been at a high intensity, there aren’t many passengers because you have to stay at it.

“Hopefully if we stick together the points will come and we can move up the table as quickly as possible.”
