INVERNESS have beaten several Premier Division clubs to the signing of Lochcarron’s highly-rated midfield player Mark Sproule.

Sproule has left the Wester Ross club after they announced that they would not be fielding a team in North Division One next season.

It understood that Glenurquhart and Kinlochshiel were both interested in signing the 24-year-old, who has been also been involved in the Scotland set-up.

Inverness manager Calum MacLeod hailed Sproule’s signing as a major boost for the club and states that his arrival has come at exactly the right time, especially with Scott Douglas returning to former club Strathglass.

"To get a player of Mark’s quality at this stage is fantastic, particularly after the departure of Scott Douglas," he said.

"To loose Scott is disappointing, but we fully respect his motives in going back to Strathglass.

"Mark will fit in perfectly and I am looking forward to seeing him develop partnerships with the likes of Sorley (MacDonald) and Craig (Nicholson).

It was Sproule’s friendship with Nicholson that was a significant factor in his decision to join Inverness and it is understood that he will be moving to the Highland Capital shortly.

In another shot in the arm for Inverness, attacking midfielder James Ross has pledged his commitment to the club after speculation that he too would rejoin Strathglass.

Tomorrow, Macleod’s side take on current Orion Premiership champions Newtonmore in a pre-season friendly at Bught Park.

Sorley MacDonald is unavailable, while youngster Charlie MacDonald is doubtful as he looks set to fulfil a previous rugby commitment with Highland.

The Newtonmore match throws up at 2pm, while at noon the club’s reserve side take on Glenurquhart’s second team.
