FEARS have been raised that the Forres and Nairn Welfare League may not be able to take place this season unless new committee members can be found.

The organisation has put out a public appeal for people to apply for positions on its committee to ensure the competition can run this summer.

The roles include league secretary, fixture secretary, treasurer and facilities secretary.

The league, which features teams from Nairn, Elgin, Forres and Kinloss, takes place every summer.

The association are also inviting new teams to join the competition this season.

Nobody was available from the Forres and Nairn Welfare FA when contacted. But they have issued a statement on its Facebook site inviting for applications to join the committee to ensure the season can go ahead.

They wrote: ”For several seasons the Forres & Nairn Welfare FA, affiliated to the Scottish Welfare FA, has ran on a threadbare committee, recovering from Covid and building foundations for the future.

“Unfortunately changes in personal circumstances means that there is a serious risk of the FA being unable to run for the 2024 Summer Season.

“There are several key roles that will be available at the AGM that are either unfilled or have a committee member doubling, sometimes tripling up, as well as opportunities in other areas for the right person

“As well as these key roles we have opportunities for those that are keen on helping book referees, writing weekly updates for the press, social media, fundraising or anything else you think you could do to help.

“As always, We’re looking to hear from clubs wishing to compete in the 2024 season, existing and new clubs welcome.

“As we run a packed season schedule with several cups and the league to play for there are a number of sponsorship opportunities available too.”

Riverside Thistle were the only team from Nairn to compete in the competition last season. Forres outfit FC Thistle were crowned league champions last season and also won Calum Riddell Cup, the McIntosh Rosebowl and FNWFA Cup.
