GRANT Munro is urging former Inverness team-mate Russell Duncan to follow him to north rivals Ross County.

The former Caley Thistle captain penned a two-year deal with the Staggies this week and would like to persuade the midfielder to join the Dingwall club’s pursuit of promotion to the SPL.

Both players were freed by Inverness at the end of the season after serving at least 10 years each with the club.

Duncan has had talks with County but is waiting for new manager Derek Adams and director of football George Adams to return from holidays before continuing negotiations.

"I would like to think that he (Duncan) hopefully will follow me here but what he does is up to him because he has a young family as well," said Munro, who was a transfer target for First Division rivals Falkirk.

"I’d just love him to come here though and I think he’d be a great addition. He’s a very good player and I think he showed that last year for Inverness but I can’t make the decision for him."

Duncan has been the subject of interest from several clubs but is awaiting firm offers.

"I’m just being patient," he said. "I just want to take my time and make sure I do the right thing. Ross County would be ideal because it is on my doorstep but it comes down to what is right for my family. I moved to Inverness so moving away is not going to be a problem but there are a lot of things to take into consideration and it is not straight forward.

"I think County will have a right good chance next season and will go close if not win the league and I will look at that, as well as the fact they are signing players like Grant, who is an SPL player and who has proved himself and has experience that will help them."

Munro insists his knowledge can only aid the club’s ambitions of reaching the top flight.

"I know from my time with Inverness that it is a very tough league and I hope I know what it takes," said the 30-year-old centre back, who skippered Inverness to promotion two seasons ago. It’s hard to predict but I think there will be three or four teams in the running, but it’s those with the know-how and experience in the team who make it over the line and hopefully I have that and we can add a couple more boys with that sort of experience because it could mean Ross County do something special next season."

County manager Adams was delighted with his first signing since returning to Victoria Park last week.

"His experience on the pitch will be vital in the season ahead," he said. "He has been a consistent performer over many years and will add further quality to our squad."

Contract negotiations are understood to be ongoing with goalkeeper Michael McGovern and Andrew Barrowman, who has become a target for Falkirk.
